Medicare Guides
Plain-English explainers on Original Medicare, Advantage, Supplement, and Part D plans.
When can I enroll in Medicare?+
Your Initial Enrollment Period is the 7 month window around your 65th birthday. Annual Open Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7.
What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medigap?+
Medicare Advantage (Part C) bundles your coverage through a private plan, often with extras like dental and vision. Medigap supplements Original Medicare by covering deductibles and copays.
Do I need Part D if I don't take prescriptions?+
Yes. Without creditable drug coverage, you'll face a permanent late enrollment penalty added to your premium for life.
Can I change Medicare plans every year?+
Yes, during the Annual Election Period (Oct 15 to Dec 7) and the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (Jan 1 to Mar 31).
Insurance Education
ACA enrollment, subsidies, networks, and how to compare plans.
What is the ACA Open Enrollment Period?+
November 1 through January 15 in most states. Outside of that window, you'll need a Qualifying Life Event to enroll.
How do subsidies work?+
Premium tax credits are based on household size and income. Most marketplace enrollees qualify for some level of savings.
HMO, PPO, or EPO, what's the difference?+
HMOs require referrals and a primary care doctor. PPOs offer out of network coverage at a higher cost. EPOs blend the two, no referrals but no out of network coverage.
What counts as a Qualifying Life Event?+
Marriage, divorce, birth or adoption, loss of other coverage, moving to a new coverage area, and certain income changes all qualify.

What preventive services are covered at no cost?+

How do I support an aging parent's healthcare?+
Start with a HIPAA authorization and healthcare proxy. Our concierge team can also help coordinate appointments, billing, and home care.
What is a health advocate?+
An advocate helps you understand diagnoses, second opinions, claims, and benefits. HealthConnect members get advocate access included.
How often should I review my benefits?+
At least once a year during open enrollment, and any time you have a major life change.
